Statement :
Ban Chiang a pre-historic culture site which date around 5,600 – 1,800 years before present, has been commonly perceived to be one of Udonthani(Northeast of Thailand)identity as well as one of the town main tourist attraction.
Ban Chiang is well known for its artifacts especially earthenware vase and pot which now has been wildly restored, replicated, remade mostly as a form of souvenir. As if this reconstructed Ban Chiang pot is a reminder of its past, a reawaken with new purpose, a transformation of the inherent identity.
Some of original Ban Chiang pots are kept in the Ban Chiang National Museum and narrate through the museum storytelling version of how the pots was discovered and maintained.
While many other artifacts looting cases have been silenced out.
The authority had seemed to be too busy paving roads, building ditches and promoting tourism industry to concern on illegal activities that causing area identities to fade away.
Frankenstein is a series of works which intent to recreate Ban Chiang shape pots by using Ban Chiang old fashion wooden paddle and clay anvil technique to form each pot. Each vessel then develops further into ceramic process with all ceramic glazes will be invented from local substances which strictly relate to Ban Chiang anecdote.
This series of works created with intention to display an artwork as a museum object confined in a museum display. These works are exercising out a mode of remade readymade in order to interrogate what we led to perceive in Ban Chiang today. The work is questioning function by altering the functional that is blurring the boudary between artwork and craftwork.
